Video Transcript for Rhino Rack Roof Rack Review - 2013 Volkswagen Jetta

Today on our 2013 Volkswagen Jetta, we're doing a test fit of the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars. The part number for our crossbars today is RRVA118B-2. For our Foot Pack, we're using RRRLKVA, and the Fit Kit for the Volkswagen, we're using DK306. We already have our front bar on and loaded up. We're going to show you how we put the last foot pack together, and then we'll show you how we load up the back crossbar. The first things we'll do is take this bolt, here, on our Foot Pack, and loosen that up. We'll then place on our clamp, and we'll tighten that bolt back down just enough so that it holds the clamp in place, and that it's not going to fall off. Then we can flip the Foot Pack over.

We're going to pull off this plastic piece on the bottom, and we'll take our rubber foot. We're just going to close all the seams on here. In the instructions it will go into more detail, but they want both of the arrows on the rubber piece and on the plastic piece of the foot to face out whenever you have it on your Foot Pack, so you're going to face it towards the clamp right there. We can take our Foot Pack and we'll fit that onto our crossbars. We're just going to line up that nut and slide it in. Our measurement for the inside strip here is going to be 18 cm. We'll mark that and adjust out Foot Pack.

We'll then take our tool and tighten down this bolt here, at the bottom. Double check this before we load it up here on our car. We can open up our vehicle doors, and we can load up our crossbar. We're going to take the crossbar, and the side that I did is going to be on the passenger side. Again, that'll go into more detail in the instructions about how to know which Foot Pack goes to each side. I'll just readjust those.

The clamps are going to sit right up under here. They won't be tight yet, until we start tightening down that bolt. Your foot packs should sit with that rubber piece right up against that edge there. We can take our flat tape, and we're going to measure from the center of the front Foot Pack to the center of the back, and we're going to have 70 cm between the two. If you ever have your clamp get stuck like that, you can just lift it up and it'll readjust there. From the center of the front to the center of the back.

With that side even, we'll check the other side. A good thing to remember is that anything you do to one side you want to do to the other, so we'll measure one side, and we want to make sure the other side is even as well. Double check that our Foot Pack is sitting right, and then we can start tightening that down. How I like to start tightening it down is, I'll tighten the clamp all the way up against the door frame, like this, and then I'll go back and forth, doing about five to ten turns on each side, until it's completely tight and secure on my vehicle. Doing it back and forth like this is, again, just going to keep it even, and make sure that we're tightening it down the right way. It's also going to prevent our crossbars from pulling to one side or the other. If I tighten this side down too much, it's going to pull that Foot Pack this way, and it's going to completely mess up our crossbar, and you won't be able to use it, or put any of your accessories on there. We want that to be extremely tight, but not too tight so that it damages your vehicle. We just want it tight enough that if we mount any accessories on there, they're not going to fly up or fall off or sit lopsided on your vehicle. With both of those sides tight, I'll take my End Cap for my crossbars on this side. I'm just going to fit that in there, and then we also have a tool that comes with it, and that's just going to lock up that end cap, and keep anything on your roof rack system secure. If you have any T Track mounted accessories, you're not going to have any problem with theft or tampering, because that is going to secure them on there. We'll take our end cap cover, or foot pack cover, and secure that down in place, and that's going to secure your crossbars to your vehicle. That's going to complete our look at the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars, and how they fit on our 2013 Volkswagen Jetta.

The installation was easy and it does it’s job. My only gripes are the locks are a little tough & the wind noise can be a lot if you get a good head wind! Besides that I’ve enjoyed it

by:
Volkswagen Jetta

Very easy to put together, the videos definitely helped. Racks have been installed for 3 days with zero movement after installation and they are very quiet while driving.

by:

so far it looks outstanding! it was fairly simple to assemble all the pieces together and tighten it down to my car. can’t wait to try it out

by:

I received this product, exactly when expected. I was disappointed at first to find that the keys to the locks we're missing from the box. After a quick call to etrailer.com, I was able to give the lock number to their support and the next day I was given confirmation that new keys we're being shipped to me. etrailer was very accommodating to my problem and acted swiftly. I would definitely do business with them again.

by:

End caps fell off after a few months. I notified etrailer and they sent me a link to buy more. I asked why these weren't covered under warrany and they have not responded.

by:

Quality seems ok, installation was fairly easy. Not real happy with the actual crossbars though. They are pretty short and very thin. Definitely thought these would have more “spread” across the roof from the photos.

by:

The rack was shipped the same day I ordered it and arrived quickly. Easy installation and it fit great. The fit and finish is very good.

by:
2017 Volkswagen Jetta

Product is excellent quality! Would definitely recommend. My only complaint would be that the product came in 3 separate packages with 3 separate instructions so it wasn’t clear which one you should start with. Once we figured out the order of the instructions the install was pretty simple.

by:

My car looks great with the rack. I love it. Send it

by:

Good pricing, fast shipping plus sold as a complete kit unlike other sites. Company and customer photos were easy to do comparisons

Ease of order, receipt, installation and excellent customer service is what I received in this order.
Thank you, e-trailer!

Just followed all the etrailer website prompts for my naked roof Toyota Matrix and it set me up with the three packages needed- rails legs and fitkit. Installed easily enough. I like the little arrow stickers hidden in the door jams for fast re-install later. Held two 10’ kayaks on a 2 hr journey with ease.

by:

Pretty nice rack system. Held up to my 90lb canoe no problem. However a piece did fly off on the highway and the "locking" bar end cap can pull off super easy.
The directions were ok. There is some stuff you have to kind of figure out for yourself, mainly the roof trim. I plan to leave the rack on so I drilled theough the trim

by:

Takes a little while to assemble the rack bars.
The stickers are great I can mark the positions after measuring the distance between the bars.
One of the screws is underneath the bar; it is hard to reach to tighten the bars.
Finally, I got the roof rack installed and it looks good.

by:

This is a perfect fit for our 2015 Prius V with "naked" roof. Instructions were clear and accurate, and the bars are solid and able to support our canoe and kayak easily. We added the air deflector, as there was a bit of wind noise, but now there is none. Great product at much lower price than the big names.

The Rhino 2500 series is well built. The etrailer customer service person Trevor W. was great. He was so helpful in getting the right components for my Rhino 2500 roof rack to mount to my 2010 Silverado. Thanks for the help Trevor.

Absolutely love the Rhino Rack. Easy to install (watch the [online] video). Looks GREAT. Hauls my kayaks no problem. Very well made and I highly recommend this product.

  • Rhino-Rack Roof Rack Components for 2014 Volkswagen Jetta
The two Rhino-Rack roof rack components you referenced, the 2500 Series Leg Kit for Vortex Aero Crossbars # RRRLKVA and the Custom DK Clamps and Pads # DK306, are indeed correct fits for the 2014 VW Jetta 4-door with naked roof. These will allow you to mount your Vortex Aero Crossbars as long as they are at least 44-inches in length.

  • Parts Needed to Install Roof Rack on 2011 Volkswagon Jetta
To install a Rhino Rack 2500 Series Square Crossbar Roof Rack on your 2011 Volkswagen Jetta you need parts # RRVA118B-2, # RRRLKVA, and # DK306. That will give you the complete roof rack with crossbars. Let me know what you plan to put on the rack and I'll recommend a specific carrier that fits the bars for you.

  • Can Thule Cascade XT Cargo Box Fit on 2015 Volkswagen Jetta
The Thule Cascade XT cargo box will fit a roof rack installed on your 2015 Volkswagen Jetta but you'll need to have one installed like the Rhino Rack Aero Bar Roof Rack part numbers # RRVA118B-2, # RRRLKVA, and # DK306.

  • Will Yakima FrontLoader Fit Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars on a 2014 VW Jetta
The Yakima FrontLoader bike rack # Y02103 will fit crossbars up to 4 inches wide. The Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars # RRVA118B-2 are less than 4 inches wide so the FrontLoader will fit. • Roof Rack Fit Recommendation for 2013 Volkswagen Jetta
The Sportrack roof rack part # SR1010 is listed as a fit for your 2013 Volkswagen Jetta with a sunroof. Since this is a semi-custom fit rack that doesn't always fit the best I would recommend instead you go with the Rhino Rack part numbers # RRVA118B-2, # RRRLKVA, and # DK306 as this is also a budget-friendly option that is custom fit so it would be a much better fit.

  • How to Carry Two Kayaks on a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta
I have exactly what you need to carry two kayaks on your 2013 Volkswagen Jetta. For starters, you will need a roof rack and for this I recommend the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbar System which is composed of part # RRVA118B-2, part # RRRLKVA, part # DK306.I like this system because it has the same features (aero crossbars/channel mounts) as premium brands such as Thule and Yakima but without the premium price. It also comes with locks whereas they would be extra for Thule and Yakima. The...
